Our research is focused in atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics and in photonics. Our recent activities include laser cooling and trapping of alkaline-earth atoms, precision spectroscopy with lasers, coherent effects, optical atomic clocks, THz generation and development of new laser tecnology.
Our labs offer one of the best conditions for research in AMO physics and lasers in Brazil and we keep collaborations with several leading groups around the world. We offer research positions both at graduate and undergraduate levels. Admission into Master or PhD programs is through our institute graduate office and occurs twice a year. There are
possibilities of scholarships from CNPq, CAPES and FAPESP. Post doc positions are also available at any time, with possible scholarships from the same agencies.
Current research projects:
- Laser frequency stabilization
- Deep optical dipole trap
- Coherent effects in ultrashort pulse propagation
- Diode pumped solid state red laser at 657 nm
- High repetition rate fsec lasers and optical frequency combs
- TeraHertz tecnology
