Philips X’pert XRD<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Bought in 2001, the Philips X’pert Pro MRD XRD instrument is a flexible machine able to carry out powder diffraction experiments (XPD and Rietveld refinement), as well as thin film experiments (XRR and HRXRD), and reciprocal space mapping of single crystals. We have a primary beam, asymmetric Ge and diffracted beam monochromators for HRXRD available, a reflectivity setup (primary beam conditioner, 2nd beam collimator with a bent graphite monochromator), a PSD detector, and beam attenuators available to carry out various standard and not-so-standard diffraction experiments.<\/p>\n

III-V Molecular beam epitaxy facility<\/h3>\n

Connected to the FAPESP young researcher project, the group will host a new III-V molecular beam epitaxy machine produced by Karl Eberl MBE Komonetten (Germany). The machine will be dedicated to the growth of As- and Sb-based III-V heterostructures. In the final stage, we should be able to cover simple structures to complex device structures, including distributed Bragg reflectors and p-i-n junctions as needed for advanced optical experiments.<\/p>\n

In the first stage, the machine will have 1 As- and 1 Sb-cracker as element V source and 1 Ga, 1 Al, and 1 In cell for element III growth.<\/p>\n

Time plan<\/h4>\n

  1. Inital project granted (FAPESP EMU 2025\/06758-0) – April 2025.<\/li>\n
  2. Discussion with various vendors and placing PO – August 2025.<\/li>\n
  3. Design approval and start of building – October 2025. <\/li>\n
  4. Preview of delivery: mid-2026 (depending on technical feasibility).<\/li>\n
