The first time you go through it, you don&#8217;t understand it at all. The second time you go through it, you think you understand it, except for one or two small points. The third time you go through it, you know you don&#8217;t understand it, but by that time you are so used to it, it doesn&#8217;t bother you anymore.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>John von Neumann:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cYou should call it entropy, because nobody knows what entropy really is, so in a debate you will always have the advantage.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Yoichiro Nambu:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cI couldn&#8217;t understand entropy and flunked thermodynamics.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Martin Goldstein &amp; Inge F. Goldstein:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cThermodynamics has something to say about everything but does not tell us everything about anything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Josiah Willard Gibbs:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cAny method involving the notion of entropy, the very existence of which depends on the second law of thermodynamics, will doubtless seem to many far-fetched, and may repel beginners as obscure and difficult of comprehension.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cThe laws of thermodynamics, as empirically determined, express the approximate and probable behavior of systems of a great number of particles, or, more precisely, they express the laws of mechanics for such systems as they appear to beings who have not the fineness of perception to enable them to appreciate quantities of the order of magnitude of those which relate to single particles, and who cannot repeat their experiments often enough to obtain any but the most probable results.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Seth Lloyd:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cNothing in life is certain except death, taxes and the second law of thermodynamics. All three are processes in which useful or accessible forms of some quantity, such as energy or money, are transformed into useless, inaccessible forms of the same quantity. That is not to say that these three processes don&#8217;t have fringe benefits: taxes pay for roads and schools; the second law of thermodynamics drives cars, computers and metabolism; and death, at the very least, opens up tenured faculty positions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cThe law that entropy always increases holds, I think, the supreme position among the laws of Nature. If someone points out to you that your pet theory of the universe is in disagreement with Maxwell&#8217;s equations \u2014 then so much the worse for Maxwell&#8217;s equations. If it is found to be contradicted by observation \u2014 well, these experimentalists do bungle things sometimes. But if your theory is found to be against the second law of thermodynamics I can give you no hope; there is nothing for it but to collapse in deepest humiliation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Albert Einstein:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cA theory is the more impressive the greater the simplicity of its premises is, the more different kinds of things it relates, and the more extended is its area of applicability. Therefore the deep impression that classical thermodynamics made upon me. It is the only physical theory of universal content concerning which I am convinced that, within the framework of applicability of its basic concepts, it will never be overthrown (for the special attention of those who are skeptics on principle).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Homer Simpson:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>\u201cLisa!
