The Event

SCIENTIFIC SCOPE: The proposed topic “Innovative routes to low-dimensional materials” is highly topical and interdisciplinary. Since the beginnings of atomic and molecular sciences, enormous efforts have been made to produce, characterize and manipulate low-dimensional materials at the atomic and molecular level. This control makes it possible to explore and influence new electronic, magnetic and chemical properties of matter. The combination of various experimental methods and the corresponding theories enables the control of individual atoms on different substrates and opens up the possibility of investigating the quantum properties of nanomaterials. The focus is on the production of low-dimensional structures by so-called “on-surface” synthesis on metal substrates, and on related topics. From a scientific point of view, the workshop is intended to deepen the technical knowledge of the participants and to initiate networking through various measures. Through visits to research institutions and laboratories, participants will be introduced to a range of highly complex experimental methods.

MEASURES TO ACHIEVE THE TARGETS: Lectures by the 2 PIs and the 4 mentors; Research-focused sessions with posters & flash talks and selected oral contributions, Networking via Interaction/ exchange of knowledge and experience with PIs & mentors; Information on research funding; Visit of the synchrotron radiation facility SIRIUS, trip to São Paulo, with a guided tour to Pinacoteca and Ipiranga Museum and dinner.
