“Carolina Nemes Award” was created by the SBF – (Brazilian Physics Society) with the support of the Gender Working Group (GTG) to recognize women’s contributions to the development of Brazilian physics, as well as contribute to diminishing the visible gender asymmetry. It is awarded to early career physical women who have completed their doctorate for up to 10 years in the year of the award, and whose research work has contributed significantly to the advancement of physics or physics education in the country. .
In 2018 this award was given to Profa. Fanny Béron of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics. She graduated from the École Polytechnique de Montréal (2003), where she completed her master’s degree (2005) and doctorate (2008) in Physical Engineering. At our Institute she worked as a postdoctoral student from 2009 to 2013, when she became a teacher. His field of research is: Magnetic Materials and Properties, such as magnetic nanostructures, nanowire networks, magnetic antipoints, nanogranular tapes, spintronics, and giant magneto-impedance (GMI).
“I receive the Carolina Nemes Award with great pleasure. I want the Prize to inspire scientists, current and future, to each create their own path from Brazil to the rest of the world, ” says Fanny Béron.
