Prof. Mauro Doria (IF / UFRJ) and Prof. Wilson Ortiz (DF / UFScar) organized the week of February 17-24, 2019 the “Brazilian School of Superconductivity: from nanosuperconductors to quantum computing” in the facilities of the Federal University of São Carlos, in São Carlos, SP.
The school had 65 participants, of which 15 were teachers. The other participants were undergraduate, postgraduate, and postdocs, mostly from the State of São Paulo: Unesp Ilha Solteira, Bauru, and Lorena, UFSCar, UFABC and Unicamp. There was also significant participation of students from other states of Brazil, especially from Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul.
During the week participants devoted themselves to discussing topics of recent interest of Superconductivity at the nanoscopic scale, such as: visualization of field penetration within the superconductor; the study of recent advances in quantum computing via superconducting circuits; and the modeling of the superconductor using microscopic and phenomenological theories. After the school there was a workshop with the presentation of several teachers specializing in the subjects. Among the participants of this FAPESP project were Prof. Mauro taught one of the short courses and teachers Marcos de Ávila, Raquel Ribeiro from UFABC, and Oscar Ferreira de Lima from Unicamp who presented their recent work in the area.
