Who We Are

The Grupo de Estudo de Física e Astrofísica de Neutrinos (Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics Study Group) focuses on the theoretical study of subatomic particles. However, our main interest lies in a specific particle: the neutrino. In recent years, the neutrino has proven to be a key to unlocking several mysteries, not only in subatomic physics but also in astrophysics.

So, what exactly is a neutrino? It is one of the dozens of known elementary particles. However, unlike the familiar proton, electron, and neutron, it does not bind to other particles to form atoms, molecules, etc. It simply exists on its own, traveling through space at nearly the speed of light.
